Sechseläuten

This Zurich spring custom got its unusual name from the fourteenth century custom of ringing a Grossmünster bell at six o'clock in the evening to proclaim the end of the summer semester working day. The first ringing of the bell provided a good opportunity for a small springtime celebration.
The prelude is the children's parade on Sunday afternoon, when the children march through the city in historical costumes on loan from the organizing committee, or in imaginative costumes of their own making. The Böögg, a giant snowman made of wadding, accompanies them as a hint of the spectacular proceedings to come the next day.
On Monday afternoon, generally the third Monday in April, the members of all the twentyfive guilds (only men) proceed through the flag bedecked city, wearing historical costumes and accompanied by various bands.
At six in the evening, everything converges on Sechseläutenplatz at Bellevue, on the shore of Lake Zurich. There the Böögg, or snowman, symbol of the wintertime of which everyone is weary, awaits his fiery and explosive end. Groups on horseback, representing some of the guilds, gallop around him to the music of the Sechseläuten march, an old hunting march, until the Böögg finally explodes. The quicker his symbolic end occurs, the sooner the long awaited spring comes.

What about a walk with the penguins?

In wintertime when the temperatures drop to below 10 degrees, King penguins set off punctually at 13.30 on their zoo tour to see the other animals! A unique experience for all visitors to the zoo during wintertime. Hint: Be there on time. In case there are many people i recommend to wait a bit above (walk 2 minutes along the path) so you can walk in front of the penguinparade and won't miss a sight to those super cute creatures.
Taxi Baby Seat in Paris
There is hope for all us travelling parents until now kids and taxis in Paris didn't go well hand in hand! Well, now you can find a taxi company specialized in driving parents and their children from A to B with the needed child seat adapted to the child's age. This is something we have missed, when travelling to Paris, that you can actually take a taxi and feel safe for your kids! Taxi Baby seat needs your reservation 24 hours in advance but will show up with the right seat according to your child or children and even with children's songs on the stereo! The website is a bit messy but in several languages and anyway, it's a service that needs its word!

The topic of breastfeeding in public is always very hot and is being discussed all over the world. It's surely a natural thing but in some cultures and countries, it's still not that commun seeing mothers breastfeed their baby in public. How is it in your country and do cafés and restaurants offer breastfeeding morthers special treatments? Please, we would love to know, cause it's important to know the breastfeeding culture when you travel!

New Family-Friendly Services at Paris Airports

We have had it for a long time in Copenhagen and now finally you will also find family-friendly services in the two Parisian airports. It includes play areas called Gulli for entertaining your kids while waiting, pushchairs for loan, great changing facilities, child-freindly checkpoints and Playstation areas for older children.

Baby Changing Areas
Baby care areas to suit your needs are available at Paris-Orly and Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport to change your baby. These areas are equipped with changing tables, protection paper roll dispenser and children's toilets in a friendly, colourful setting suitable for changing your baby's diaper. The baby changing stations are available in all toilet facilities of our airports, in the public and passenger areas of both the departure and the arrivals areas
Strollers Loan Service
A free baby pushchair loan service is available at Terminal 2E of Paris Charles de Gaule and in terminal South of Paris Orly. Eventually, the service will be extended to all terminals, still as a self-service operation.
In Terminal 2E of Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport
Immediately after the security checkpoint, two self-service pushchair loan stations allow you to comfortably take your baby all the way to the boarding gate after you've checked your own pushchair with your luggage.
In Terminal South (hall A) of Paris-Orly
The pushchair loan station is immediately after the security checkpoint opening onto hall A, downstairs to the left of the escalator. It will only operate during the school holidays.
