MoMA Art Lab People

From October 10, 2012 through August 31, 2013, The MoMA in New York welcomes visitors of all ages to its latest interactive space MoMA Art Lab: People, located in The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building. Free with Museum admission, this space invites visitors to discover the ways in which artists represent the human form by investigating body language through art-making activities, digital play, and other creative explorations. One feature of the space is Fresh Paint, a new app created by Microsoft for Windows 8 that looks and acts just like real paint, where visitors can create a portrait. Other stations in the lab include an “exquisite corpse” wall drawing, a shadow puppet theater, and making faces on two magnetic walls. If you have no plans on visiting New York in the nearest future, you and your kids can play with the Moma Art Lab App, read more here!

Adventure Playgrounds by Tom Luckey

Tom Luckey, a Yale-educated architect is well-known for his lofty play structures, which children love. Lately, his playground have been seen at the MOMA Museum in New York for the exhibition Century of the Child. We are fascinated by these playgrounds and wish we had something like this in Scandinavia.

Luckey started designing for children in 1985. He also experimented with sculptural staircases, and toy and carousel design, but made a career of these trademark climbers, which have delighted young visitors to children’s museums and other public spaces across the United States (from Boston and Chicago to Houston and LA) and in Mexico City. The designs are exuberant, even miraculous, incorporating stable platforms suggestive of magic carpets, leaves, or other organic shapes that seem to float in space while encouraging unfettered ascension. With no predetermined path of exploration, smaller children are able to explore the lower levels while advanced amblers can pursue more elevated adventures. Netting surrounds the structures as a safety precaution, allowing parents to watch their offspring emulate mountain goats and also giving kids the satisfaction of a good view.

Who just lived or was travelling to New York in the coming week? Yet another great event at the big able. This time, it's the meets and greets of the creators of one of my favorite children's books Kiki & Coco in Paris at the Little Marc Jacobs shop. The book is about this little girl travelling to Pris with her favorite doll, one of the gorgeous dolls made by Jess Brown. You can see more images from the book here!

So if you're in New York on June 7th from 14.30 to 17.00, come and meet the three ladies: Nina Gruener, Stephanie Rausser and Jess Brown for some book reading and refreshments.

Hip NY Café Moomah Re-opens!

We were very sad when we learned that the fantastic concept play café Moomah in New York was closing down. Therefore, it's with tremendous joy that we can announce for all New York families and international visitors that this cool Tribeca café will re-open on the 1st of March.......

The local families aparently made a lot of noice when the café closed down, great to see that people really care about what's happening in their city. The café will have less happenings and classes to begin with and then after the summer holidays expand. You will still be able to enjoy their famous smoothies and great coffee, do a bit of crafting in the art corner and book different workshops and classes for your children. Also, very soon Moomah will launch their d.i.t (Do it together) Magazine with inspiration for all parents on things to do and make with the kids, can't wait to see it! In the mean time, you can already buy some d.i.t kits on Etsy which later will be available online. More info here!

The chill is barely out of the air here in NYC, but yesterday at the Two studios in Brooklyn, it was full on Summer with the preview of their new collection.4354 Priti CaftanThere is little else that gets me more in the mood for toes in the sand and the sound of waves than running my hand over breezy caftans in gauzy fabrics, delicately embroidered and intricately detailed.
